Porn Addiction

With the increasing availability of pornographic material online, porn addiction has become a major issue for society.

Porn addiction shares similar traits with other addictions such as sex, gaming, drugs and alcohol.

Aside from the normal issues linked to addiction, porn addiction can have additional negative effects on the addict’s relationship with their partner as a result of decareased libido, erectile dysfunction, premature ejeculation, and abnormal expectations from the partner produced by porn.

Signs of Porn Addiction

While symptoms vary, such as the severity of the addiction and the length of time of the addiction, there are symptoms that are commonly present for many patients seeking treatment.

Warning signs and symptoms of a porn addiction may include:

E

Not being able to cut down or stop using porn despite repeated attemps to do so.

E

Porn Addiction Recovery

Porn addiction recovery begins with accepting that there is a problem and finding help. At Promises, our professionally trained sex-addiction therapists can assist in understanding and dealing with porn addiction.

There are a number of assessments available online. However, some are not clinically validated, reliable, thorough or confidential enough, or they may cause unnecessary alarm.

The International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP) provide Certified Sex Addiction Therapists (CSATs) with an anonymised, online questionnaire, called the “Sexual Dependency Inventory – 4.0”. It takes a client one to two hours to complete. At the end, a confidential, detailed client report is automatically generated for the therapist to interpret and share with the client. The results of the test will indicate a path towards a workable therapeutic solution.
