Dr Julia Lam

Dr Julia Lam is a Forensic Psychologist with Promises Pte Ltd and Raffles Counselling Centre. She completed her professional doctorate in forensic psychology at the University of Melbourne and her doctoral thesis was on problem gambling under the supervision of Professor Michael Kyrios. Julia worked as a lecturer and tutor in several tertiary institutions before in Hong Kong and Australia. She lectured widely on various psychological topics.

Before relocating to Singapore 2.5 years ago, Julia worked as a registered psychologist / problem gambling counsellor with the Gambling Treatment Clinic, University of Sydney, Australia. She also had experiences working with problem gamblers and prisoners in Melbourne. Julia's previous work in Singapore included: Placement Coordinator and Lecturer of the Clinical Psychology Program of James Cook University, Singapore Campus and Head of the Psychology Program at the SIM University. As her passion is in forensic psychology, she now spends more time in forensic-clinical work, and is working directly with people with various psychological issues and addictions; in addition to keeping a small teaching and research supervision load.

Julia is a scientist-practitioner. She is a registered psychologist in Hong Kong, Australia and Singapore. Julia has expertise in problem gambling counselling, counselling and managing offenders and prisoners in community and incarcerated settings. Her research interests include impulse control disorders, obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders, problem gambling and gambling-related offending, and addictions.
